Your Voice Is Important
The future of generative AI and agentic AI depends on the people designing the solutions we will all use. Whether by choice or by force, this recent popular geo-techno-political tool will influence some of the cultural and social models we live under.
For example, conversation designers must be aware of ethical implications such as bias in AI responses, data privacy concerns, and the risk of creating misleading or manipulative interactions. A poorly designed system can reinforce stereotypes or spread misinformation, making ethical awareness a fundamental skill in the field.
It is essential that we recognize and support the professionals shaping this landscape, ensuring that their work aligns with ethical, inclusive, and human-centered principles.
A crucial initiative is underway to map the state of conversation design roles globally. At its center is a new survey to gather worldwide trends, challenges, and regional differences in the field, with the results made publicly available to inform and advance best practices.

Why This Survey?
This survey is not just another industry report—it is an effort to bring transparency to the evolving field of conversation design.
It maps how the role of conversation or conversational AI designers is evolving. It seeks to uncover the diverse backgrounds of those shaping AI-driven interactions—from linguists, to writers or engineers—and explore the pathways individuals take to become conversation designers.
Understanding these unique journeys and skill sets will provide valuable insights into the internal structures and processes behind the profession. The rapid evolution and the information overload of this field can be quite overwhelming, so mapping different career paths can help alleviate this feeling, clear the air and provide guidance. Not only to those wanting to start this journey but also to advance as experts in the industry.
Conversational AI is at a crossroads. We can either allow its development to be dictated solely by corporate or geopolitical interests, or we can actively contribute to shaping a field that prioritizes humanity. As designers, researchers, and strategists, we hold the responsibility of ensuring that AI-driven interactions serve people, not just profits.
